Christy Sholola - Biography

As long as Christy can remember, she has enjoyed writing, reading, and discovering the impact and power of words among people – specifically within a family, a community, a nation, and the world. Many times those discoveries have left her in awe!
She first discovered her love of poetry when she was a junior in high school. Her English teacher decided to read several of her favorite poems to the class. The teacher read Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and We Wear The Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar. As a child growing up in Louisiana during the turbulent decades of the 1960s and 1970s, Christy, along with her family, had a front-row seat to the ugliness of segregation, as well as the triumphs of a people engaged in a struggle for equality. So, the powerful words and meanings behind those words became seared in her mind and her spirit. For Christy, those poems and the lives of those poets served as a living testimony to their enduring influence and their power to transform. After hearing those poems, she was never the same. It was then that she knew that she wanted to become a writer.
Currently, Christy resides with her husband, Shegun, and their three children in Avondale, Arizona. Besides writing, Christy also enjoys traveling and designing beaded jewelry.
